Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is proud to announce an exciting new initiative aimed at engaging men in the breast cancer movement and giving a male voice to the urgency of finding a cure.

Who: Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is looking for its inaugural class of Pink Tie Guys. The Pink Tie Guys will serve as Komen ambassadors, helping to mobilize, energize and engage others in the KoMEN promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever.

What: Pink Tie Guys will leverage their personal connections, community affiliations and roles within their organizations to inform, influence and inspire our community to take action and raise funds for breast cancer. The Pink Tie Guys pledge to make a difference by wearing their signature pink Komen tie and sparking conversations about breast health, breast cancer disparities and the power we each have to affect change. These men exemplify the mantra “real men wear pink” because they know that pink is a symbol of hope, courage and strength.

When: Pink Tie Guys are asked to make a year-long commitment to raising awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. These men attend, participate in and host Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale events and other related activities throughout the year, as their schedules allow.

Where: The Pink Tie Guys live and/or work within the Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale service area, which consists of Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

Why: Because breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men in their lifetime. The Pink Tie Guys make a powerful statement that men, just like women, should be paying attention to women’s health issues and be aware of their own risk for breast cancer.

How: Each Pink Tie Guy is asked to make the following commitment·

  • Serve as ambassador of Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale by wearing the signature pink Komen tie and speaking out about the importance of early detection and breast self-awareness.
  • Attend Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale events and activities, including but not limited to the annual Race for the Cure in October.
  • Assist Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Board of Directors and staff with introductions to new companies and individuals interested in supporting our mission.
  • Support Komen Miami Ft. Lauderdale with $750 annual gift, separate from what they may raise for the Race.
  • Recruit one new Pink Tie Guy for next year’s class.

In exchange for their commitment, Pink Tie Guys will be profiled on the Affiliate website with a photo and brief bio, highlighted on the Affiliate social media sites, and recognized in event press releases. KoMEN wishing to join the Pink Tie Guys will become visible figures in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area and will be provided with numerous opportunities to network with like-minded community and business leaders. Each year, the Affiliate will host an annual Pink Tie Guy event to honor and recognize those amazing KoMEN who fulfilled their commitment as a Pink Tie Guy. It is at this event that Pink Tie Guys will invite their new recruit to learn more about this exciting KoMEN initiative.
